Edibility

EdibleTaste: Excellent ★★★★★

This species is noted for its pleasant, earthy, or nutty aroma and delicious flavor. It is physically similar to the Penny Bun (Boletus edulis) but is distinguished by a darker appearance and a more prominently networked stem. While the white flesh typically remains unchanging, it may occasionally turn slightly vinaceous or darken when cut or bruised.

Misidentification can be fatal. Never eat a mushroom unless you're 100% sure. This information may be inaccurate. Always consult multiple sources.

Nutrient Source

Ectomycorrhizal

It forms a symbiotic relationship with the roots of trees, exchanging nutrients with them.
