A parasitic species that grows on old oak trunks, stumps, or fallen branches, primarily in ancient woodlands or parklands. It causes brown rot and typically appears as solitary specimens or in small clusters.

Appearance

Fruit body
A bracket-like structure, often fan-shaped, measuring 5 to 15 cm across. It is narrowly attached to the wood, usually by a rounded, stalk-like base. The upper surface is slightly convex, smooth, and can develop small cracks or warty patches as it ages. The margin is blunt and curves inward.
Pore surface
Starts white and matures to a brownish color.
Tubes
White to cream-colored and relatively shallow, reaching a depth of less than 0.4 cm.
Pores
Rounded in shape, with a density of 2 to 4 pores per millimeter.
Flesh
White, thick, and characterized by a hard, tough texture.
