Edibility
Though likely non-toxic, consumption is generally inadvisable as it may cause significant gastrointestinal distress and pass through the digestive system undigested. While the taste is mild, it has a strong metallic or gas-like smell and should only be eaten while the interior is firm and white. It can be confused with other small puffballs and earthballs, including Lycoperdon umbrinum, Lycoperdon molle, and Apioperdon pyriforme.
Misidentification can be fatal. Never eat a mushroom unless you're 100% sure. This information may be inaccurate. Always consult multiple sources.
