Edibility
This species has a mild flavor and can smell of flour or ammonia, though the white flesh is described as quite tough. It can be confused with Pleurocybella porrigens or Pleurotus dryinus, the latter of which is distinguished by a cottony ring on the stem. Other lookalikes include Pleurotus ostreatus, which typically has a brown cap and fruits in cooler weather, and Pleurotus populinus, which grows exclusively on poplar or aspen and lacks a lilac spore print.
